The month of February remains a very unique month in the lunar calendar. Apart from its being the only month that refuses to hit the 30 days mark, its 14th day adds to its uniqueness. It fills the air with love aroma and the stores with love movements. It also comes with various theories of how that 14th became Val’s day. No attempt will be made to join in the theory, what is of interest to us is the fact that all the schools of thought agreed that love is the essence of the day!
Someone once said that the word ‘love’ is very unfortunate because it continues to suffer abuse without remedy. ‘Love’ seems to have been so misused that it will be a good idea for you to ask for clarification when next someone tells you ‘I love you’ so as not to be misused like the word itself. In the spirit of this season, we invite you to give the word ‘love’ another look. It may be a good idea to study the life of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Holy Bible e.g. John 15:13.
We believe that lovers stayed with their loved ones through difficult times; but loafers walked off when the rubber hits the rock. Lovers are not self-centred in what they do; they always seek the comfort of their loved ones too. Lovers ‘make love’ they don’t ‘have sex’. If you really want to operate in love, make sure you aspire to become a lover and not a sex-hungry-person.

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. (NIV)
You can only enjoy sex, or do we say, make love within the confines of marriage and it should be with the mind of having mutual pleasure. Where either of the foregoing is absent, all that is happening is what a couple called ‘mere biological act’. It’s just the kind that animals also experience, no passion involved and no consideration for the comfort or pleasure of the other. To engage in premarital or extra-marital sex is no lovemaking, to turn the other party to object of selfish personal gratification is void of love and to sexually abuse/exploit another is not in the spirit of love.
